Our Time In Eden
10,000 Maniacs
1992
This album exists on the periphery of being interesting but never quite makes a compelling enough case to get over the line. It’s like if Caesar had waded into the Rubicon, which is famously not a river with a particularly strong current, stopped, and let it carry him away. There are elements of bands like Boa in here, but I can’t say anything stuck out to me at all beyond that I enjoyed the arrangement
Pretty middle of the road stuff, feels like an inferior copy of other musicians like The Cranberries or The Cardigans in a lot of ways
“These are the days you’ll remember” ; unfortunately they are not the songs you’ll remember. 10,000 maniacs’ music could not sound less like music made by 10,000 maniacs, in fact they come as close to my approximation of what ai music might sound like as any band has done so far. Aggressively uninteresting, i suppose it is music and i suppose you would have to call it songs. Sounds like the type of royalty free thing you might have to learn if you were practicing for grade 2-3 in guitar. Anti-music. Failed to find anything it has going for it.
