Generation Terrorists
Manic Street Preachers
1992
Not every album I love is flawless throughout, sometimes they can be difficult or contemplative. Generation Terrorists feels like strip-mining in Minecraft. There are an awful lot of diamonds in here, all time great tracks that pepper this experience, amidst a lot of middling and bloated tracks. But when this album shines, its blinding. A bit of dirt and grime can really boost an album built on righteous anger. Also the MASH theme cover might be the best tv theme cover ever put on an album, not that there are many.
Technically really well done but didn't really spark anything off me. Can't help but feel like I missed something. If it is sharp then today I must be dull.
This is a really strange listen. On the one hand, the music is really good. On the other hand, this felt like listening to a whole album titled ‘What English Sounds Like To Non Native Speakers’. I honestly couldn’t pick out around three quarters or more of the lyrics. Take the best song for example. What are the lyrics to Motorcycle Emptiness? I should be standing up and shouting the virtues of such a driving and wistful anthem and yet I am now convinced that I heard the lyric ‘Mothers Are Cool, Empty Nests’. Also a criticism of the Spotify listening experience. Release a non-legacy version of your album for goodness sake.
